Dear Tim Burton. My name is Igor, I am 18 years old and I live in Russia. Forgive me my English, because I translated the text through Google translator.
Recently I learned that you are preparing to release the film on the novel by Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland". Just the thought that you pull on his long puppet Gothic Scissorhands to this great product makes me cry bloody tears. Recently, some persons who call themselves artists, writers, poets and filmmakers and a belief that "Alice in Wonderland" has a dark side of the otherworldly, and include many images from this fairy tale to gothic culture. Consequently, in young girls who considered themselves goths, Nicky appeared on the Internet «Alice», many artists began to paint the cat out of the tale with spikes, gothic band wrote many songs about this story, and a lot of gothic shit was poured on this flawless well-constructed story.
Please do not pouring into this perfect his grotesque gothic shit. I do not think your gothic creations by shit, but in the case of Alice invite you to burn all the materials for this work and destroy the dolls so that they do not rise, do not pick you up in a magical land, after which they will torment you singing and dancing

Sincerely, IndigoInferno.

Dear users of the forum - the theme really is not funny, and I would even say sorry. Currently fundamental work of Lewis Carroll can be buried in the Gothic style completely. We in Russia for at least 6 well-known Surrealist artist, specialized in the dark arts, using Alice as a dominant image in his work. I am the organizer of exhibitions on the theme "dark art", but Alice - a tale of my childhood and I use all my free time, so as not to allow Tim to complete this film.
Johnny DEP as a Hatter - original! I do not doubt! Mysterious grotesque images of the other world - wonderful! How is unpredictable! Do not be surprised if they start to sing in the middle of the film as the next Bambi!
Dear Tim, if you are reading this, then I got on the warpath, because your lack of attention to this issue and selfishness lead me to believe that you do not even know I existed. I understand you - at your place, I would also would pay for a small office with threats crazy Russian boy attention. But - I warn you - I declare war.
P.S. I love the music group I Decare War. I will try to use them as well.

Too bad Tim isn't Gothic, and Alice isn't going to be 'dark'
Luckily Lewis Carrolls book is going to come alive this March :D

But Timmy understands your concern and would recommend not going to see it then.

I'm a fan of the books "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there" AND Tim Burton, so it's difficult to me to can handle with it.
At one site, your are probably right, the books itself aren't really dark in any way.
(And there also aren't any refferences to drugs. That's ridiculous, Lewis Carroll aka Charles Lutwidge Dodgson never was addict to drugs, read the books, they are too intelligent, satirical and funny- and- the books aren't so much surreal as many people believe! Instead, there are of course surreal images and icons, but the heart of the book are the clever diologues, full of nonsens humour.)
Also, the Queen of Hearts is'nt the Red Queen, this both are completly different characters! (From the look and style as well from the whole personality)
Also, the White Queen is ugly and silly in the book, not beautiful and young...
And so on, and so on, and so on...
BUT, on the other site, I love Tim Burton sooo much and I just love the whole trailers, promopics, soundtrack and so on...
Okay, it has'nt to do with the book really, just the title "Alice in Wonderland"; but I like the idea of an sequel, I love the cast, the CGI and visuals and these burtonesque ghoulishness, the action, the humor and so on...
Probaby Lewis Carroll would get crazy if he where still alive and would see what Linda Woolverton, Disney and Tim Burton have made with his beloved classic, but on the other site: Why not a re-imaging, re-freshing?!
I will love this movie, I just know it, but I can't think of the books and watch the movie to the same time, because than it would be awful...

if it was identical too the book.. then what would be the point? There wouldn't be any point in making a film or the book will become redundant. Theses changes keeps the book very much alive.. it's different.

Plus the film wouldn't have any surprises,

Well, according the drug thing, I was thinking about it some years ago. It rather seems unlikely that Dodgson took some drugs, indeed. On the other hand, in the 19th Century (and even to the beginning of the 20th) there were a lot of unhealthy substances in everyday use, so who kowns how strange some things (especially being subjected to regularly) may infect you?

I mean, he was a very active hobby photographer and taking pictures in those days meant to deal with a lot of chemicals, some of them may have had a side effect or two.

If you read "Sylvie And Bruno", his other epic work, there's even a comment about the three stages one has to be psychologically to get connected to the fairy world he describes.

Incidentally I stumbled about those described three stages of mind again when I read an article by some psychologist who wrote about his work with frequent drug users, trying to find a conenction to the inner worlds those persons created in their state of "opened mind".

So maybe it's all coincidentally, but it struck me when I read it.

Again, I don't think Dodgson used any drugs in an aware manner. And the rest must be pure speculation. It's just my theory and that's it.

of cause he took something, many artists and writes did in those days, it seems foolish to really doubt it to be honest, The books didn't just come from intelligence and imagination.. he had a little help.

And i really don't know why people get upset with this.. it's like they are embarrassed.

Well I don't get upset about it, I don't mind I some artist does. I just think he's not the type of guy I would think of doing that. That's all.

Tim Burton doesn't seem the type of guy to do drugs.. but we know he did experiment with them in the past.

Trouble is We don't really know enough about him to be honest, and there are so many conflicting story's.
But there are many people who get really upset and angry if you bring up his possible drug use, I don't buy into the pedophilia argument some people bring up but i think the drug issue is very plausible one.

The pedophilia issue is ususally backed up by the fact that Carroll just so liked to look at young girls. In his diary, he expressed that he had no interest in photographing males of any kind or adult females, only young girls...and many times in the nude. So it's not like the issues are simply falcified but at the same time, we must consider the time period. This was during a period when children and especially girls were viewed in complete innonence. And while Carroll mentioned photographing nude girls(which was acceptable at the time), he also mentioned that his interest in young female friends was entirely wholesome. So it really sort of goes both ways, I suppose I don't outright stand on either side of the spectrum. Though what can be said, if he did have an attraction to young girls, he remained celibate.

As for the drug use, I believe opium was the drug of choice at the time. It was legal and not looked down upon. Saying that gentlemen of the Victorian period did not indulge upon a narcotic or two would be like denying that the wonderful gentlemen here in the Americas did not have slaves.
