Well, according the drug thing, I was thinking about it some years ago. It rather seems unlikely that Dodgson took some drugs, indeed. On the other hand, in the 19th Century (and even to the beginning of the 20th) there were a lot of unhealthy substances in everyday use, so who kowns how strange some things (especially being subjected to regularly) may infect you?
I mean, he was a very active hobby photographer and taking pictures in those days meant to deal with a lot of chemicals, some of them may have had a side effect or two.
If you read "Sylvie And Bruno", his other epic work, there's even a comment about the three stages one has to be psychologically to get connected to the fairy world he describes.
Incidentally I stumbled about those described three stages of mind again when I read an article by some psychologist who wrote about his work with frequent drug users, trying to find a conenction to the inner worlds those persons created in their state of "opened mind".
So maybe it's all coincidentally, but it struck me when I read it.
Again, I don't think Dodgson used any drugs in an aware manner. And the rest must be pure speculation. It's just my theory and that's it.
