The old forum already had it's own Coraline topic, but it has never been brought back to life. So here it is, post your opinion, discussions, news and questions about the new Selick movie that we are all (hopefully) looking forward to.

I personally am much more excited for this movie than either Alice or Frankenweenie.

I'm lookin forward to this too! I love how most of the websites I go to have Coraline ads on them. And now the commercials are on TV and my parents keep on saying "Hey, that Caroline film looks cool."

It looks incredible, but I still need to read the book.

I liked the skeleton hand that grabbed Nightmare Before Christmas in the TV trailer! :)

Eeeeeeeee, giddygiddy gumdrops.
I've been looking forward to this movie for AGES.

Although oddly enough, I keep forgetting the release date. I want to say it's January 9th, but that's not right, is it?

Ah, that's why this topic wasn't here already! Sorry, I did not see that. But this movie deserves it's own topic anyway.

I'm very excited to see this movie, especially because I know it's look amazing in 3-D.

My only confusion is this new male character that Selick's introduced. I know he said it was to have someone for Coraline to communicate with, but I guess I'm just a little concerned about how he's going to affect the story. It still looks like an awesome movie though.

Kind of cliché but I'm sure it will be a cool movie. At least the style is appealing. I doubt Henry will ever do anything better than Nightmare before Christmas.

Anyway,

Thanks Mr. Burton for bringing stop-motion back to other directors' minds.

Huge Gaiman fan here, so I'm naturally looking forward to this; and Henry Selick directed it! That's like, a double treat right there. :)

So far, the best 3D film I've seen in my life was the re-release of Nightmare Before Christmas, and I think because the real-but-not-quite nature of stop-motion lends itself really well to the process. I am really looking forward to this. The imagery looks utterly amazing. I haven't read the book and I'm not very knowledgeable about Neil Gaiman apart from what little of Sandman that I read. But from what I understand it's a pretty out there Alice/Oz type fable. I really can't wait.

The main site is very cool: http://coraline.com/ There are even a few hidden things -- a video clip of Coraline's other father playing the piano, bookmarks, posters...and Coraline's star sweater pattern, of course.

I'm seeing the non-3-D version Sunday; I'm so excited! :D

Can't wait to see this movie today. Have my 5:00 ticket in hand.. Have been pumped up scene I received my gift from the movie production studio in Nov. I was an active member of HalloweenTown.org for many years and a BIG TNBC fan and they found me on that site and email me asking for my mailing address. I thought why not. I'll get a movie poster out of it. 3 day later, there's a box at my door.. here is what was in it

First off, I remember you Zero (it's Pumpkin Princess)

And I've seen that a bunch of other sites have gotten these boxes, and if you search around on some other sites you can find the Coraline ABC movie posters.

Guys, I can sum up my feelings for this movie in 9 words:

"I liked it better than The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Go see it. Seriously.

Really? Lydia, how many songs were in the movie? Was that 3D good? Was the story original? (expecting for triple "yes")
Anyway, I waiting for the release in my country(April).

Yeah, it's going to get released in April over here as well. Don't think I'm going to get to see it in 3D though. The Ain't it Cool reviews have made me even more enthousiastic than before. It's a real pain to have to wait more than two months.

I just got back from seeing Coraline! Oh my god, fantastic! I'm gonna go get my friends and go see it again next week! The 3-D was so great. The music was beautiful! The songs, though some I think were in French or some other language, were so cute and catchy! They're already my ringtone! I'm so excited to see it again!

Oh my gosh.

I just got back from seeing it, and...oh my gosh.
Well, I loved it, but I liked the book more...the changes were okay, but it did break away from the book a lot, which is understandable. Coraline sort of annoyed me for a while because it seemed like she just complained about everything, but realized her relationship with her parents was kind of going in a cycle. They don't have time for her, she acts out, they become frustrated with her.
I really loved all of the costumes (especially her star sweater and orange gloves) and the score was perfect. Keith David was wonderful as the cat. ;)

I guess I generally agree with the critics: it's stunning visually, but story-wise, it feels a little underwhelming.

But definitely will have to see it again; there was so much to see.

Pros

Amazing animation
Delightfully creepy
3D gave the film visual depth and the filmakers didn't treat it as a 3D movie much
Great voice acting (I actually was able to tolerate Dakota Fanning!)
Hilarious and twisted humor
Extremely artistic
Great soundtrack
Despite what alot of people say, it does not look like cgi! It's very much and obviously stop-motion.

Cons

More for those who love and appreciate the art of stop-motion
Extremely mature and a bit scary (so not for the young-ones)
Near-nudity of a "large" woman.
Really long, tends to drag.
Not many "pop-out" moments (which is fine with me but I heard many people complaining "It doesn't look 3D even though it does, they just want popping)

I was trying to do cons from more a perspective of a mainstream viewer who just wants to stare at a screen and not think or a over-protective parent.

I personally really don't have any problems with the movie that I could think of. ;)

Coraline was great!

Well, according to animateclay.com Selick is already pitching new ideas to Laikia.

argh.. 13 year old fighting zombies.. sounds terrible, dones't should like slick.. but being the more cheesy of the two its probably the one thats more likely to get made.. LOL
The trouble with Count Karlstein people might get mixed up with Dark Shadows.... and will have another Burton/Selick mix up like with Coraline.

Or he might do something different.

Coraline didn't have a great opening weekend... but its a start, I think Henry's next film will be based on how well Coraline does.. no doubt it will do better outside the US so hopefully its makes a profit of sorts.. well its 16 knocked off the 75 budget.. lol long way to go.

Well I saw it Sunday with my 2 daughters and my mother. Sported my TNBC shirts.. (such a geek that I am)...Any ways
1st... for a Sunday after noon in a college town the seats where pretty filled.
2nd.. I couldn't help myself and look around the room and then looked at my 13 year old daughter and say" How many people in this room have a Coraline box?" haha...
So I was pumped up to see this movie get started!!!

Ok here it goes.
WOW .. I mean WOOOW!!!
I'm a fan for the art of stop motion in every aspect. But Wow...This will a visual trip. The colors. The moment. It was mind spinning..
If TNBC or JaTGP was original shot in 3D.. I could only imagine...

Music....call me old fashion our in a rut... But I thought the music could of used a little Elfman flare. The music was beautiful. But I think something was missing. And the movie did have some drag time to it that maybe.. now maybe a little Elfaman kick would have brought it along a bit more.

"Head Tilt" to all the artist, puppeteers, visual effects people and the man Henry Selick... this was a good one!!!

oh 2 more notes... 2nd Mom was visual kick ass cool looking!!!! I think she could kick Oggie Boogies ASS!!!
and stay for all the credits.. added treat at the end.
