This story's gonna grab
people. It's about this guy, he's crazy about this girl, but he
likes to wear dresses. Should he tell her? Should he not tell her?
He's torn, Georgie. This is drama.
The long-awaited
Region 1 Ed Wood DVD features a widescreen presentation of the classic
Oscar-winning film and a stunning array of extra features. One of
the highlights is the audio commentary, with contributions from
Tim Burton, Martin Landau, writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karazewski
and more. The fact that it's shared with other people makes this
one of the more informative director commentaries on any of Burton's
DVDs. The never before seen deleted scenes are eye catching, and
the making of documentaries are brief but informative, especially
the one focussing on the use of the theremin in music. There's even
a truly bizarre music video featuring Vampira!
Of course the real highlight is the film itself, which has never
looked better. Filmed in beautiful black and white, this is the
somewhat tragic story of the worst director of all time, a man who
had vision but not talent. Seems like a strange subject to do a
movie about huh? Well, Timmy B. pulled it off with his usual charm
and style and it is considered by some to be his very best film
so far, equally hillarious and moving. The story takes place when
Ed Wood is just starting out in directing, trying to get a foot
in the door when he meets Bela Lugosi and with Bela, he teams up
with some other misfit movie makers to make such B films as Plan
9 from Outer Space and Bride of the Monster. It is also a touching
story of a man coming to terms with his need to wear womens clothing.
The whole cast is excellent, but Johnny Depp and Martin Landau are
unforgettable in their roles.
