Art contest results

Our jury consisting of 9 Judges has finally published results of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Art Contest. We received over 30 very good entries, but here are the 5 we liked the best. Please click on the image for a bigger version. (Some of the pictures might be quite large)

1st place: by Joel Tokarczyk. (Please send us your address Joel)

2nd place: by Meaghan O'Neill (Please send us your address too Meaghan)

3rd place: by Lexi O'Dea

4th place: by Justin Turrentine

5th place: by Angela Kimberly

And here are some comments from the judges on why they chose these particular entries.

The Winner:
"With the lone squirrel in the foreground and Veruca's legs sticking out of the floor in the middle ground and the stark white background, this piece has an eerie yet playful quality that perfectly captures the essence of the chocolate factory. I love how there is no clutter with which to distract the viewer's eye; there are simply two main focal points. It is a very powerful image."
"This one was by far he most original entry. It has been very original when it comes to composition. The original subject, Veruca Salt, it's almost not to be seen, but who for those who know the movie or book, it's clear what it's about. And this entry is also the one in which the artist has shown that s/he has a style of his/her own. That becomes clear in the way of using matching colors and drawing techniques."
"It is very simple, with lots of detail on the characters. There is a good use of brush strokes on the squirrel. And the squirrel has a very mischievous look on his face."

2nd Place:
"So ingenious how the artist managed to incorporate gum wrappers into the actual piece. Very pop art, very imaginative."

3rd place:
"This fine picture rides on the tide of the recent Deep Roy mania at the TBC. None of the other entries featured Mr Roy so prominently, so this one really had an advantage because of that."

4th place:
"A nice illustration that would seem like it would fit perfectly in the pages of the book."

5th place:
"Has a lot of detail. You can tell that a lot of work has been put into it. There is some excellent shading, and use of colour."

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who entered!

Look for the results of the Oompa Loompa song contest sometime next week.
