Depp is Sweeney Todd
This is just an update on our last story for those who haven't heard already - Johnny Depp has been officially confirmed as playing the lead in Sweeney Todd. So post your thoughts on Burton and Depp collaborating yet again.

I hope depp can sing, he kinda seemed to avoid it in charlie and the chocolate factory, as well as in corpse bride... Still love his acting though.

Having seen 12 versions of Todd on stage, this is stupendous news. I can't think of anyone who looks the part closer than Depp. Given his strong work ethic and effort to learn a part, there's no doubt in my mind his voice will be in "Hearn" condition by the time filming starts......
He better damn well be able to sing.

As much as I love both Depp and Burton's collaborations, I think Burton needs to take a breather from Depp and work with some other actors. I'm in no way saying they should never work together again. I just would like to see some fresh faces in Burton's movies.
Other than that, I'm psyched to see this because it's Sweeny Todd, and that's amazing!! Burton will do an amazing job of this!

About the Johnny/Tim part, I mean. This IS going to be absolutley mind blowing. I am freaking out and it's coming out in two years!!!!!! I am SO EXCITED!!!!!

I have every ounce of faith that Johnny can sing. I remember him performing with The Pogues back in "94" as the article says. That man has unquestionable talent in so very many areas. :::grins:::

what people forget is that its not Depp.. well its is but you can never tell.. his that good he becomes those characters.. you forget who your watching and those characters are bought to life.
Yes Depp can sing, he used to be in a band before he was an actor... he actually fell into being an actor because he had no money and his friend Nicolas Cage told him to just audition for a part and he got it. He used to play lead guitar and vocals. He has played guitar with some big bands as a guest guitarist, so I have no doubt that he we do an amazing job as Todd!

wombstar, you're absolutely right. Johnny is what they call a consumate actor. He gives everything to every character he plays , regardless . I admire him immensely and can't wait to see this film !

Depp is one of the best actors I know, he can play whatever he wants, I'm sure he'll be great as Sweeney Todd, as he is great as Willy Wonka or Jack Sparrow.

SOOO excited about this film. Whenever Depp and Burton come together they make pure magic and art. I hope they never cease to collaborate. I also have faith in Depp's voice. It may be a bit of a challenge for him, but actors love that. This is going to be real life right? Not animated?

Yes, I do know I have all of his movies! I was saying that Depp and Burton has not done any killing things together. Mars Attacks was just aleins that were animated not real people anyway, sorry for the confusion.
Actually come to think of it they did do one sene where Edward killed that man and pushed him out the window. But that wasn't like bloody/gore kind of movie. This one sounds like it kinda is... but ya, thats about it.
I'd almost forgotten that part of "Edward". I guess that was meant to show just how far society can push even the most innocent of people...so....no, thatdoesn't really count...and the aliens, well, yeah, they were computer-generated , weren't they.....?...but let's not get technical . They did "fry" quite a fewcharacters. :::grins:::

I think he is an amazing choice even if Burton wasn't directing it, because Todd has to be twisted and normal! How exciting!! and of course he can sing he wouldn't be starring in a musical if he couldn't.
